Losing weight is tough as most of us know. Now consider this for just one minute, being overweight may not be your fault. Before you start that fitness plan of yours you need to go see your doctor and get the green light for beginning a weight loss plan. Keep in mind that during the time you were putting on those extra pounds and not being physically active; your body probably started to react negatively and some subtle changes may have started to happen. These changes could include anything from the start of heart disease to sugar diabetes or even worse. When you see your doctor they will be able to make sure you are healthy enough to exercise and take on a restricted diet.

Now you will also need to set realistic goals, goals that are obtainable and set high enough to be a challenge but low enough so you don’t get discouraged and give up. For example, if your long term goal is to lose 50 pounds in say 6 months then break it down to smaller goals like 8 pounds a month or 2 pounds a week, much easier to focus on and be commited to.

Another lose weight tip is to eat a healthy well balanced diet. You will need to make sure you are getting all the nutrition and vitamins your body needs to stay healthy. Don’t follow a diet that is too restrictive or doesn’t fit your lifestyle. Now, back to the exercise part. You need to set out a plan for exercise and if you haven’t been very active lately you need to start off slow and steady and one of the best ways is by “walking”. Walking is a cost free way to help you get in shape and lose weight. Who knows, depending on your physical shape now, within two weeks you could be walking up to a half mile to a mile. As your wind and strength improve you may find your self able to move into a brisk walk. Your walking will be the most effective when you can sustain a heart rate of 120 beats a minute for a minimum of 30 minutes.
